A Brief History
Willish is a language devised by my friend, Richard and I. Sophie inspired the original idea.
Willish is a language born out of one persons inability (or unwillingness) to spell correctly. It all started when my friend Will typed ‘niib’ instead of ‘moon’ one day in an Instant Message window. As you may notice, ‘niib’ is ‘moon’ typed one key to the left. We built upon that idea, and decided that Willish must be correctly spelled English words, typed one key to the left.
I then set out to make our lives easier by creating the Willish Translator.
How It Works
There are certain rules one must follow in order to use the Willish language correctly:
- First and foremost, Willish is not a spoken language. Many Willish words may be difficult, or otherwise impossible to pronounce using conventional pronunciation keys.
- Punctuation and grammar are the same in Willish as they are in English.
- Numbers can be typed in their numerical form, and will remain numerical regardless of being written in English or Willish. This rule is effective immediately as of version 1.3.
- When needing to translate the letters ‘a’, ‘q’ or ‘z’, observe the following key:
The above method is used because the keys that represent ‘a’, ‘q’ and ‘z’ have no key representing another letter to their left. Since ‘l’, ‘m’ and ‘p’ have no letters to their right, it only makes sense to go full circle around the keyboard and make a = l and so on. This rule was introduced after Will questioned why a = 1 in version 1.2 of the translator. Read the change log for more details.

Enter the text you wish to be translated into the English Text or Willish Text boxes and press the appropriate button.
